resident artists & studio space
SPA rents studios to working artists and art collectors at reasonable rates in order to provide space for creative work, art exhibition and learning opportunities about contemporary art; provide opportunities for artists and others to collaborate; and to integrate the general public with working artists and others in order to expand participation in the visual arts. Please contact SPA if you are interested in renting studio space in the building.
Open Studios at SPA:
March 2, 2024
Join us for Open Studios on Saturday, March 2 from 1-3PM for a glimpse of the SPA makers and their practices.
Open Studios at SPA is an informal time to chat with artists, find out about what they are working on and ask about their methods and plans. The following will be involved: Larry Bowling; Juliana Fechter; Karen Henderson; Joe John; Georgia Landau; Maggie Neale; Athena Tasiopoulos; Janet Van Fleet; Mark Waskow, NNEMoCA; and Pamela Wilson.
We will have several scheduled talks or demonstrations: (1) 1:30PM: Joe John will demonstrate how to use his Drawing Machine for self-portraits; (2) 2PM: Janet Van Fleet will discuss her current series of faces and the various materials from which they are made; and (3) 2:30PM: Pamela Wilson will discuss earth pigments and paint making.
Annual Studio Residency Program
In the fall of 2015, SPA first tested the 11-month Studio Residency Program. A small private studio on the second floor of the visual arts center was provided at no charge to an emerging artist in the Barre/Montpelier area to build a new body of work for exhibition. The Studio Residency Program continues to receive significant interest and artists are selected on a competitive basis. The next deadline for applications is June 30, 2024.
