Violaceous Exhibit Dates: May 1 – June 15, 2024 While the color purple is relatively rare in the natural world, the SPA gallery will overflow with various shades, from bold magenta and periwinkle to earthy plums, wines and pomegranates. During the season when farm lilacs are budding and bursting into bloom, this symbolic color formerly reserved for royalty will have its day at SPA. The show includes a variety of media, both traditional and non-traditional and SPA will consider proposals for installations. We are attaching 2 fascinating essays, one by Hannah Foskett and another by Dian Parker that served as inspiration. To view the essays, click HERE. |

Art at the AUD
The Barre Auditorium – fondly called the “AUD” – was constructed in the late 1930’s as a federal Public Works Administration project. The AUD has served Barre and the region as a community center for meetings, training sessions, performances, athletic events, family celebrations, and conventions. In addition, the AUD is a regional emergency center for the Red Cross, among other essential community services. Studio Place Arts (SPA) curates the artwork at the AUD and its adjacent buildings. The featured artist in the “Connector Building” located between the AUD and Alumni Hall is Erik Nelson. Nelson is a record-setting former forward/center for the UVM men’s basketball team and an art major. Later, Nelson played for the Vermont Frost Heaves at the AUD. The featured artist at the entrance to the AUD is Aaron Stein. The featured artist in Alumni Hall is Pria Cambio (2nd floor conference room). Please contact SPA for information on the artists, potential purchases of artwork, and future art displays. (Featured Artwork: Erik Nelson |
